FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
We take a root-cause, movement-based approach to pain, injury, and performance. This includes a functional movement assessment, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, education, and a personalized plan to restore function and reduce pain.
-
No referral is required. Anyone can request an appointment directly. We’ll start with an assessment to figure out what’s going on and then collaboratively design a care plan.
-
You’ll undergo a thorough movement and functional assessment to identify areas of restricted movement, muscle imbalances, or compensation. Dr. Boules will use hands-on evaluation and possibly other testing to determine what’s contributing to your pain or injury, then discuss treatment options.
-
Possibly—but it depends on your needs. Manual therapy is one of the tools used, and adjustments are one method among others. Your treatment plan is tailored; if adjustment helps, it may be part of what we do. If not, other manual release or therapeutic techniques will be used.
-
Usually no. The goal is to help you move better and return to activity safely. We aim to maintain or gradually modify your activity rather than stopping entirely, unless doing so would harm the healing process.
-
It depends on your condition, how long it has been going on, your starting point, and how much you do outside of sessions (home exercises, consistency, etc.). After your initial assessment, you’ll receive a plan with frequency and duration. Usually, early sessions are more frequent, tapering as you improve.
-
Yes. Protosoma emphasizes therapeutic exercise as part of recovery. Home exercises are prescribed to reinforce what is done in-office, help restore function, and support long-term stability.
-
We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal issues and injuries: back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, sports injuries, overuse issues, movement dysfunction, etc. If you’re not sure whether we can help your specific case, we’ll discuss that during your assessment.
-
We accept select insurance plans; however, coverage may not always include the treatments that are most effective for you. That’s why we offer a free discovery visit—a chance to learn more about your options and what care would work best for your needs.
-
Yes. All treatments are evidence-based, performed by a qualified chiropractor (Dr. Greg Boules) who is trained in functional movement, manual therapy, and exercise prescription. Some soreness after treatment or exercise is possible (like after working muscles you haven't used in a while), but serious complications are very rare.
-
That varies. Some people feel relief after just one session; others require multiple sessions. The severity, duration, and complexity of your condition, plus consistency with home work, influence how fast improvement happens.
-
No. The aim is not lifelong dependency. Once your symptoms are resolved and function is restored, many people reduce or stop formal treatment. Some choose to continue occasional check-ups or maintenance because of the value in staying optimized, but it’s your choice.on

We see many clients in this situation. Protosoma’s philosophy is to go deeper—look at movement, biomechanics, compensations, and lifestyle. We combine manual therapy with targeted exercise and functional movement to address what might have been missed.
-
We do both. In addition to helping people recover from pain or injury, Protosoma works proactively with people who want to optimize movement, prevent injuries, and maintain resilience.
